There are many compelling reasons to scooters nowadays as more and more people are looking to adopt this form of transport. Scooters aren’t as affected by traffic conditions in city centres, normally parking is free and is much easier to find compared to trying to park a car. Then there is not having to rely on public transport, the cheaper running costs compared to a car and if you are based in London, no congestion charge to pay.

The cheaper running costs is a big plus especially recently as petrol knocked past an astounding 110p in the UK. Scooters and other motorbikes give much better mileage with a scooter providing two to three times the mpg of a car.

Although scooters aren’t as big as in mainland Europe, we still have a huge range of manufacturers to choose from, with plenty of brand names to choose from and riskier scooter manufacturers. There are many Chinese-made scooters doing the rounds at very tempting prices. However like a car a scooter needs servicing and can require replacement parts. If you look to get help from the manufacturer then there is no guarantee it will be there from a Chinese manufacturer unlike what you can come to expect from major brands such as Peugeot, Honda and Suzuki.

Chinese scooters and bikes are also known to be of poorer quality and therefore will start to have problems meaning there is a danger to riding a scooter that isn’t safe. Therefore the advice is to stay clear; the money you save on buying the scooter is likely to be lost in huge level of depreciation.

Look at scooters for sale from a reputable company that has an established dealer network so should you needs parts it isn’t going to be much trouble to repair the scooter or if it is second hand, buy a brand of scooter that you have heard of before.

The anticipation of a new riding season for the motorcyclist can sometimes be a little nerve wracking, especially if you’ve been waiting for the time to come for months because you’ve had to endure the cold winter months which have been filled with snow and ice and all of the conditions that would make riding a motorcycle completely impossible.

When the time does finally come to hop back on your motorcycle for the first time of the season, the feeling of relief overwhelms you like a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders and you’re finally free to go about your business. At least, that’s what I feel like when I get on my motorcycle for the first time during the spring riding season. It’s hard not to feel a wave of excitement come over me as I take the helm of the rumbling beast and fly off into the business of every day life without a care in the world.

Before I head out on my motorcycle for the first time of the season I always remember to perform all of the post storage checks to make sure all is well and operational, and then I always check my gear to make sure I’ve got everything I need to be safe on the road. Riding a motorcycle is not just about hopping on and taking off without regard for safety or concern, there is a planning process involved that has to be considered before you head out. Once you’ve made all of your checks, you’ll be ready to head out without any worries.

Getting back on the motorcycle after winter storage is a great feeling for many that happens year after year and when that time finally comes, are you going to be ready? Make sure you are so you don’t miss a single minute of that well deserved riding time.

The first Harley-Davidson motorcycle was produced in 1903. Although the sale of their motorcycles were very slow at the beginning. The single cylinder motorcycle that they created in 1903 sold very quickly and this motivated them to bigger and better things. But in 1905 sales dropped way off, as a matter of fact the only sold 11 motorcycles the entire year. So they knew they had to make some drastic changes and after trial and error in 1908 their business began to grow they sold a total of 154 motorcycles that year. The founders of Harley-Davidson motorcycles decided to move their production from the tiny barn that they were working in too a factory where they can have more space to build their motorcycles. They also hired their first employees a total of about 22 ramp-up your motorcycle production.

In just four years their business was booming they had over 200 motorcycle dealerships in the United States. Japan was also demanding a lot more bikes from Harley-Davidson as the interest for the motorcycle was really gaining popularity in Japan. Harley-Davidson was best known for its strong power in it’s motors it made a great racing bike, but that was not the reason the United States military chose to have Harley-Davidson build them 20,000+ motorcycles for the first world war. His huge contract made with the United States military pushed Harley-Davidson to the top they were the top motorcycle producer of that time and would stay that way for many years.

During the second world war the United States military again called on Harley-Davidson for their motorcycle needs they placed an order with the company for a vast amount of motorcycles. Although this was good for Harley-Davidson it was a bad time for anyone that was looking for motorcycle to buy from them because it was nearly impossible for any normal citizen at that time to purchase a motorcycle. This would be the Achilles’ heel for Harley-Davidson for a while as people got tired of waiting to be able to buy one they went to other companies to satisfy their needs for two wheeled transportation. This led to turbulent times for Harley-Davidson in the early 1950s but by 1957 they came out with a new brand called the Sportster and this would set them back on the top of motorcycle production companies. The Sportster seem to be what consumers were looking for at the time because of its sleek styling and it’s raw power.

From 1957 up until 1980 Harley-Davidson only made minor tweaks and adjustments in the style and design of the bikes they created but in 1980 they decided that they need to make some drastic changes in their selection of motorcycles. And in late 1980s they introduced the FLT it was equipped with a five speed transmission and instead of being chain driven Harley-Davidson went to a belt drive system. Then in 1984 they introduced what is known today as the V-twin motor. This helped them stay ahead of the competition.

Harley-Davidson has been one company that has always prided itself on feedback from its consumers. They would take into consideration all their consumers suggestions to make their product even better. In 1987 Harley-Davidson did something no other company had ever thought of they introduced their buyback plan which meant that they would give the consumer the full trade in value when they came in to purchase a newer model motorcycle. This was a big success with the consumers.

Since 1987 up until present day they have produced various new models that appeal to their customers wants and needs. They still have their popular Sportster, now made in various styles. The Dyna, a bike made for simplicity and speed, but they also have motorcycles made for comfort and cross-country rides such As the road king, the heritage classic soft tail, the electra glide, the Road glide, and many more and you can guarantee with the demand for a Harley-Davidson out there today there will be many more models created each and every year.

One thing that stood the test of time is that their consumers are definitely loyal customers because they won’t even consider riding any other type of motorcycle and I guess this is the reason that Harley-Davidson now has almost 65% of the market. With their attention to detail plus their commitment to keeping their customers satisfied you can guarantee Harley-Davidson will be around for a long time to come.

With so many motorcycle accessories to choose from it’s not hard to customize your ride. Nope, the hard part comes when you try to decide what exactly you want and need.

Some accessories are safety related while others are strictly for fun and appearance. It’s probably a good idea to balance the two.

Number one in safety accessories should always be to purchase a quality helmet that meets or exceeds government standards and that fits properly. This is not the place to settle. Buy the best you can afford. Helmets are available in many colors and lots of designs so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one that matches your bike.

There are a number of other motorcycle accessories available that you can invest in that are safety related. There is everything from goggles, sunglasses, leather gloves, chaps and jackets, right through to full riding suits. It’s probably not a bad idea to buy some rain gear as well. This will make rides in inclement weather more comfortable.

If you take a lot of trips there are accessories to make carrying gear a lot easier. You can choose from a variety of pouches and bags that attach to your bike and can be removed when you reach your destination. For short trips you may want to leave the saddle bags at home and get a motorcycle back pack.

If you want to really enjoy your motorcycle, you’ll want to be comfortable. You have the option of changing the handlebars or even the seat to add to your comfort. Adding an extra set of foot pegs so you can stretch out your legs is an option many riders opt for. If you often carry a passenger on the back, you may want to think about installing a back rest for her.

Now if you want to customize the appearance of your bike there are a ton of accessories you can choose from. Almost anything chrome is a popular choice. But how you customize your motorcycle is really a matter of personal preference. Each manufacturer has certain unique accessories that reflect their brand. There of course are all kinds of after market accessories available as well.

If you are not sure what exactly you want to do, spend some time going through showrooms to see what the newest accessories are. Motorcycle magazines will give you lots of ideas and advertisers feature their latest products.

Best of all might be to attend a motorcycle show or swap meet. Sometimes just seeing a bike that is all decked out can solidify your own plans in your mind. Once you know what you want it’s easy to customize your ride with the right motorcycle accessories.

Sometimes you want to transport your motorcycle to another area before you ride. To load your bike onto the back of a pickup or other vehicle, it’s a good idea to use good, solid motorcycle loading ramps. Why trust your pride and joy to a makeshift ramp? For a good source of the very best ramps, check out http://www.aluminumloadingramp.org/.

If the spectacular riders are the stars of the motocross circuit, the magnificent machines they ride are surely their powerful costars. No look at the world of motocross racing would be complete without a thorough examination of the bikes that make the sport so interesting and popular.

The power of the motocross bike is one of the factors that gives the sport its wide appeal, and many of these motorcycles have power to spare. The size of the motocross engine actually varies quite widely, from motors as small as 50cc to as large and powerful as 550cc.

In the early days of the sport a 500cc machine was thought to be the ultimate motocross machine, but as the technology of the sport progressed, fewer and fewer riders were able to wring the best from these powerful machines. As the smaller but more manageable 250cc bikes gained better and better technology they eventually overcame their more powerful cousins as the favored mount for motocross racers.

One of the most frequently cited distinctions between motocross bikes is the two-stroke versus four-stroke engine. In the early days all motorcycles featured four-stroke engines, but as the newer two-stroke versions improved in quality they became even more popular as motocross bikes.

As with many aspects of motocross, the choice of two-stroke versus four-stroke engine is largely a matter of personal choice. Some racers love the power and ease of operation of the four-stroke motor, while others prefer to guide their two-stroke bikes to victory. No matter what the type of bike, there is likely a class of competition to accommodate it. The sport of motocross prides itself on its innovation and adaptability, and new converts to the sport continue to make their mark year after year. From the youngest motorcycle riders to the most seasoned professionals, the sport of motocross offers something for everyone.

There have been many rumors going around that the Austrian-based company, KTM, has been testing out a new 350cc motocross weapon. Well for once, the rumors were true, and KTM recently announced it like they weren’t hiding anything. The reason they are building a 350cc production bike is because they wanted a bike that had the power close to a 450cc motocross bike, but the weight and handling to that of a 250F.

The 2011 350 SXF is an all new bike from the ground up. It has a new 350cc engine, a new frame, fuel-injection, and new-to-KTM linkage rear-suspension! The bike also has electric start for those lazy riders out there. It also seems to have a spot to put a kick starter, but there isn’t one currently on the bike. It is said to be released to the public this summer (2010). The price may be high, but it will most likely be worth it for the amount of work KTM has put into this bike.

This project-bike-no-more has been in the works since 2007, with KTM doing testing to see what works best on the bike. The 350 SXF was made with the help of World Motocross Champion Stefan Everts. He said the thought of a 350cc was to make up the needed power that a 250F was missing so it would be almost as powerful as a 450. The combination of a bigger and lighter engine than a 250F with the weight still similar will make this the perfect motocross bike… Or will it? Find out this summer when KTM releases their 350SXF motocross weapon!

Choosing to ride a motorcycle is rather sensible, in some ways, and it invites significant risk in others. The direct economic cost of owning and riding a motorcycle is generally far less than that associated with a passenger car or truck. Moreover, the environmental impact of the typical bike is much smaller than that of another motor vehicle. On the other hand, however, there is a significant safety gap between a well-equipped motorcycle and a well-equipped family car, subjecting a motorcycle rider to the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident. This becomes strikingly clear when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

In Wisconsin, this is an especially important consideration because of the dramatic weather events that occur throughout the year. At different times there are many different weather phenomena that can turn the roadway into a dangerous place for a motorcyclist and his or her passenger in an instant. High winds, heavy rain, snow, ice, lightning, and tornadoes are all reasonably expected across the state and it is absolutely essential that a biker be prepared to respond immediately so that they can protect their safety.

Warning Signs and Safety Tips

Given the exposed nature of a motorcycle rider’s position atop the bike, it is wise to adopt a more proactive set of habits than might be necessary for other motorists. For example, taking the extra time to catch an up to the moment weather forecast for the range in which you will be riding can be of immeasurable value and only requires a minimal investment of time. If you are already out on the bike and observe that the sky has suddenly darkened, you see lightning flashes, or you hear the rumbling sound of thunder, then the set of responses at your disposal must be finely tuned so that you can protect yourself.

Some of the places that have the potential to be the most hazardous are bridges, overpasses, in tunnels, and in wide open roadways. Each of these features is particularly prone to either freezing, creating an increased force of wind, or renders a motorcyclist an attractive target for a lightning strike. Here are several safety tips to keep you well:

Avoid riding at night when temperatures are at or below freezing, if possible

When a lightning bolt and thunderclap are separated by less than 30 seconds, get to a covered space and remain there until there has been no such strike for a period of 30 minutes or more

Lower speed if you absolutely must ride in heavy rains

Have you been thinking about buying a motorcycle half helmet for the upcoming riding season, but are not sure exactly which one you should buy, or what is available when it comes to these types of helmets? You’ll be happy to know that there are a number of different of styles available on the market, and chances are there is a style that will fit your personality perfectly, it just takes a little time to find the right one.

If you’re looking for the basics, then there is a type of half helmet that perfectly fits that category which is the basic half helmets category. These types are really the basic model when it comes to this style and you’ll find that they are the most simple with regard to design, graphics, added features, and so on. Basic half helmets are typically made with an inner liner and cushioning, a padded or non padded chin strap, and come in paint finishes such as gloss and flat. You’ll also find that the basic styles are available with different graphics and any type of design that you can imagine.

Another type of half helmet is the vented version, which is basically the same as the standard non-vented version but with the obvious difference of having the vents. The benefit of the vents is that they allow air to flow throughout the helmet when open, which in turn helps to keep the rider cool in warmer riding temperatures. These types of helmets are very popular in areas where warm riding temperatures are typically the norm. One of the most uncomfortable feelings is riding a motorcycle with a hot and sweaty helmet, so this is one great way of eliminating that problem.

Other types of helmets include the polo style, which is a lower profile, sleeker looking helmet that many like because they would rather maintain a lower profile look while on their motorcycle. There is also the German style half helmet which is a replica of the German war helmets. This style has become increasingly popular of the past few years and continues to be a strong contender in the motorcycle helmet market.

Finally, for those that want to have the smallest, lowest profile necessary, there is the novelty style helmet which generally has the same look and feel as other half helmets, but with a much thinner inner liner which allows for the thinly constructed helmet shell. This allows the rider to maintain the sleek look instead of a bulkier look which is created by the other half helmet styles.
